St Christopher’s is a charity creating brighter futures for children and young people in care. As a leading provider of children's services, we always seek to develop our practice and find new ways of supporting young people.
-
All our services have the same goal: to support children and young people to fulfil their potential, grow into independent adults and have happy, successful futures.

There are many ways you can support St Christopher's work with children and young people. Find out how you can help young people reach their goals.
Volunteering opportunities
Volunteering with St Christopher’s
''Have you got time on your hands? Got some skills and knowledge you would like to share? Well, here is a chance for you.''
Some young people in our care can struggle with low self-esteem. This can affect their ability to cope with challenges in their future, so we aim to support them to grow in confidence and feel strong enough to take on whatever life throws their way.
One way we help build their confidence is by doing activities with them, side by side, so they can step out of their comfort zone but still feel supported. Having opportunities to learn something new and gain a new skill teaches young people that they can conquer the unknown and turn it into a positive experience.
That’s where volunteers can help.
What do young people want in a volunteer?
“We are looking for people who are fun, open minded and have an ability to see the best in people.
You don’t need to have lots of experience of working in social care to know about life and people and the world. We are looking for people who are full of enthusiasm, ideas, and energy but who have lived life, can find interesting ways to share their knowledge and inspire us to achieve great things.
We have a lot to offer the world, but sometimes it is locked deep inside us and has not yet found a way out. You could be the one to help us find a key to unlock our potential.
Every one of us is different and we are looking for all kinds of people. So if you are sporty, creative or a pro at Microsoft Excel we can find a project where you can make a real difference. We know you are probably busy with your jobs but that’s okay – some of us have lots of time, some of us a little less, so understand that volunteering needs to fit in around the rest of your life.”
Volunteering with a charity
In the past volunteers have transformed our gardens, performed in-home theatre productions and provided pizza making classes for our young people to enjoy.
We understand that your time is valuable, so we make sure your volunteering experience is worthwhile. When you volunteer with St Christopher’s you will:
- gain experience;
- meet new people;
- work on life-changing projects;
- and have fun!
To volunteer you will need to complete a DBS check, supply two references from the past five years and be available on evenings and weekends.
