Taking care of our staff

Staff benefits

At St Christopher’s, 100% of our young people said that the staff were the best thing about living in one of our homes. They are caring, fun and never give up on the young people they work with.

That’s why we place a lot of importance on looking after our staff. Without them, we wouldn’t be St Christopher’s and we wouldn’t be able to make a difference to children’s lives. We look after you so that you are excited to come to work every single day.

Competitive salaries

St Christopher’s offers competitive salaries that are benchmarked against the sector and annually reviewed by our teams.

There are incremental pay scales for all members of staff working directly with young people so that your salary increases as your skills develop through our training and development opportunities, and a pension scheme with workplace contributions.

Each year we will cover the cost of your Disclosure and Barring Service check so you can continue working with young people.

Practical help

When you start working with us, you can access childcare vouchers, cycling vouchers and a season ticket loan to help you with living costs.

You can use our discount shopping scheme, Edenred, to save money at hundreds of retailers in store and online across the UK.

Bupa Employee Assistance is also available to offer counselling, financial advice and legal support, whenever you need it.

Supporting your well-being

We know that sometimes working in children’s social care can be challenging, so we invest in our staff’s well-being and happiness.

Your annual leave entitlement increases with the number of years you work at St Christopher’s and we strongly encourage staff to use their time off– we understand how important it is to look after yourself.

MAC-UK work in our services to provide emotional support to staff if you need someone to talk to outside of your team.

It’s not just a job at St Christopher’s –it’s lots of fun too!

One of the key elements of social pedagogy, which underlines everything we do, is about having fun with young people and taking part in new activities together.

You’ll have the opportunity to try things like rock climbing, gardening and pottery, as well as get involved in longer term projects like joining our football team.

If you’re around at mealtimes in some of our services then you can join in at the table too like in any other family home.

Each year our children’s homes go on an annual summer holiday that you can go on too –it’s a great experience for our young people and staff always really enjoy themselves.
