Aftercare service sees best results to date
The Aftercare team on the Isle of Man have achieved their best results so far by supporting an increasing number of young people to secure education, employment and training positions.
Only 7% of their current clients are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, compared to 37.5% in 2013. 58% of young people working with the team are now in work and / or education, which is a massive achievement. This is over twice as many compared to the 2013 data.
Aftercare Manager Richard Gilmour said: “We have made a concerted effort over the last couple of years to change the culture around care leavers by raising our expectations of them and, most importantly, raising their expectations of themselves.
“Increasing motivation and creating EET opportunities has been one of the key successes since the Aftercare service expanded in 2015 and I am extremely proud of the team and all their hard work. I am also proud of the young people we work with; they have overcome many obstacles, like breaking through stereotypes and stigma, to achieve great things that they didn’t think they could do.”
